Special Night Tricks & Tips

Image
When I have a very important night planned, I add about thirty minutes to my prep time and break out some special extras to make sure I'm at my very best. Here is a list with links of those must haves: A solid eight hours of sleep the night before -  As we get older, we really cannot afford lose sleep. It shows in a major way on our face. Seriously. This is not always the easiest prospect for me but I have found Rescue Remedy Sleep to be extremely helpful with the snag and loop. It's non-habit forming and made from Bach flower remedies, which are comprised of flower essences that have been distilled in alcohol. They have a pastille version that is sans alcohol if you prefer. Exfoliation -  You just simply cannot skip a good solid exfoliation before your big night out. I always take the time to use Peter Thomas Roth Peel Pads. All three minutes of it. PTR Unwrinkle Peel Pads Hydrating Lotion Mask -  A girl's gotta do and I have got to t...

The Gold Standards of My Regime

Image
Birthday No. 42, gulp. Products come and go.  Especially for a skincare/makeup obsessive like me.  Some products are so tried and true though I continue to use them regularly, if not daily.  I may cheat on them a bit now and then but I always return to products that work.  These are the absolute gold standard of my regime.  Follow the links to my original blog postings. Purity Made Simple Face Wash - Philosophy There simply is no better face wash.  It is gentle, dissolves makeup, and doesn't sting my eyes.  I buy 32 ounce sizes so that I never run out. Purity Made Simple Clarisonic Face Brush This brush is amazing.  It's worth the money.  Your skin just gets cleaner.  Your pores look better.  Just remember to REGULARLY replace that brush. Clarisonic UN-Wrinkle Peel Pads - Peter Thomas Roth I don't take the time to use these enough.  When I do though (and I always do), I s...

Smooth It Out

Image
If you are a no makeup person, over 35, or alternatively wear a lot of makeup, I highly recommend looking into a good primer.  They even out your skin tone and texture, minimize your pores, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, and set your makeup.  No more raccoon eyes if you play your cards right.  No more looking at yourself in the mirror and wondering what the hell happened to your blush.  You skin texture looks smoother. Boys, there is no reason why you shouldn’t use a primer.  They are clear so no one will have any idea that you have makeup on but your skin will look so much better. With that said, I’ve tried a lot of primers.  Goldilocks over here has dealt with too greasy, too dry and it’s taken a while to find a primer that is just right. Mally Perfect Prep Poreless Primer is wonderful stuff.  It does all of the above.  Sometimes I worry that a primer is going to break me out or mess with my skin because they seem so chemically but ...

Philosophy - The Present

Image
Philosophy calls this primer clear makeup and it really is a little magic trick in a bottle.  It's a fantastic primer that sort of fills in all your little imperfections like large pores and fine wrinkles, leaving a soft, matte finish.  I heard one person say it creates a soft focus effect for your face which is actually pretty accurate.  So as a primer it leaves a smooth even surface for your makeup and helps keep everything place.  But it's clear so you can easily choose not to wear makeup over it.  The Present gives your face that flawless look without any sign of makeup.  No one will have any clue you have makeup on your face.  In fact I have a male friend who LOVES this stuff.  He even thinks it helps protect his face from the elements (don't get me wrong, no sunscreen here) so that he breaks out less often.  That last part may be debatable but there is no question th...
