Philosophy - The Oxygen Peel

Image
The Oxygen Peel is a product I’ve discovered and fallen in love with several times. It’s a really fantastic exfoliating mask that simply works. This goes beyond using a scrub. It uses enzymes and oxygen foam to really go at that top layer of your skin. Yet, it’s incredibly gentle. I have sensitive skin and it has no problem with this peel. There are three steps to the mask. First you put some hot water into the little container that comes in the box. Then you twist open a capsule and add the powder into the hot water. Stir it together with the little spatula and in a bit you have a warm gel. Apply the warm gel with your fingertips all over your face, neck, and if you’re feeling flush décolleté. Then you apply the white cream from a separate jar on top of the gel and rub it in. Suddenly the gel and the cream will react to each other a bloom into a shaving cream consistency. Leave that on for about a minute and then take that spatula and scrape off the blooming cream like you’re s...

Philosophy - The Present

Image
Philosophy calls this primer clear makeup and it really is a little magic trick in a bottle.  It's a fantastic primer that sort of fills in all your little imperfections like large pores and fine wrinkles, leaving a soft, matte finish.  I heard one person say it creates a soft focus effect for your face which is actually pretty accurate.  So as a primer it leaves a smooth even surface for your makeup and helps keep everything place.  But it's clear so you can easily choose not to wear makeup over it.  The Present gives your face that flawless look without any sign of makeup.  No one will have any clue you have makeup on your face.  In fact I have a male friend who LOVES this stuff.  He even thinks it helps protect his face from the elements (don't get me wrong, no sunscreen here) so that he breaks out less often.  That last part may be debatable but there is no question th...

Philosophy - Purity Made Simple

Image
This is the best cleanser I have found.  It gently removes your makeup and deeply cleanses your skin.  I don't use makeup remover because this does the trick in one step.  Plus I don't get that tight, uncomfortable, dry feeling after I cleanse with Purity Made Simple.  I love it so much, I keep it in my shower and next to my bathroom sink so that I don't have to go hunting for it.  I recommend using this at night and an exfoliating cleanser in the morning.  An 8 oz. bottle of Purity Made Simple goes for about $20.  Philosophy Purity Made Simple 8 oz

Philosophy - Hope in a Jar

Image
A good portion of my 20's were spent on my quest to find a great moisturizer.  I tried everything.  Nothing satisfied me and my cabinet was filled with half used jars of this or that.  That is until I found Hope In A Jar by Philosophy.  For me, and yes we all are different, it really is the perfect moisturizer.  My skin just eats it up and it feels cool and refreshing going on, like a drink of water.  This fickle product whore has been faithful to Hope In A Jar for at least 10 years.  If that doesn't tell you something, nothing will. philosophy | hope in a jar | world-famous daily facial moisturizer cream

When Hope is Not Enough Hyaluronic Acid/Peptide Capsules - Philosophy

Image
When things get stressful in your life, sometimes you have to pull out the big guns for your face. This is the time to give yourself that special facial, exfoliate, apply masks, basically whatever it takes. Not just because it's you being sweet to yourself (and it is) but also because stress is HELL on your skin! Before you know it, you look in the mirror and see skin that appears to have had the life sucked out of it and guess what, that stresses you out even more. It becomes a moisture 911 situation. My friend and skin care expert Tyler Steele recently reminded me about hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is all about sucking the moisture back into your face! It has the ability to hold a thousand times its weight in water. Tyler gets more technical about the whys and wherefores in his blog bytylersteele .com, but all I know is hyaluronic acid works. This version by Philosophy is truly great! It never goes bad because it's maintained in these individual little plastic capsul...

Philosophy - Cinnamon Buns Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash

Image
Yum. Philosophy is well known for these all in one body wash, shampoo, and conditioners that smell exactly like pie, cake, and cookies. Other great 'flavors' are pumpkin pie, waffle cone, red delicious apple, and lemon custard. I don't know how they do it, but they get the scents exactly right. There is something so special and decadent about sudsing up in a steamy hot shower surrounded by the smell of some sinful dessert. Call me crazy, but it seems to satisfy my cravings for sweets. The cinnamon buns is really wonderful. I'm sad when I don't have a bottle of this in my shower. I don't miss any of the other 'flavors' but this one is a must have. Plus this formulation is a good shampoo/conditioner combo to have in your rotation for those days when you don't have a lot of time to wash your hair. As a body wash it's fantastic, very moisturizing. So much so, you really don't need a shave gel. As a bubble bath, it's amazing. When you think a...

Help Me

Image
This is Lola's favorite. She says she may not be able to live without it. Something about which she has mixed feelings and blames me entirely. I love getting my friends hooked on skin care! Recently I've been breaking it out myself and the positive results cannot be denied. Help Me is a strong, no frills retinol treatment. It will solve a multitude of issues; acne, large pores, discoloration, and yes ladies, wrinkles!  The best thing you can do for your skin is a retinol treatment at night and good exfoliating wash in the morning.  No joke.  You will be amazed by the results.  Warning: be extra careful about wearing sunscreen during the day as you use this. Your skin will definitely burn more easily. Help Me runs about $45 a tube but it's well worth it. Philosophy | Help Me | Retinol Treatment | Skin Care Treatment For Face

The Great Mystery - Philosophy

Image
This is the product that won me over for the whole Philosophy line. It never fails to make my skin look cleaner, brighter, and fresh. While I'm taking a shower I dry my clean face and hands with a towel and apply the one minute facial all over my face. It warms my face for a bit while I do other things and then I wash it off. You really do only need a minute. The salt in the facial purifies and cleans your pores. The instructions say to rub it in for the minute but maybe because I have sensitive skin, I just let it sit like a mask. It instantly makes my skin look better. philosophy the great mystery, one-minute daily facial 5 oz (141.75 g)
