Tarte Cheek Stain - Blissful


OK. Full disclosure. I have to admit that this cheek stain has been ignored in my makeup drawer for some time now. I tried it once and felt overwhelmed by the gel consistency and a bit underwhelmed by the color. Something came over me recently however and I can’t stop using it. It’s important to not be shy with this product. Be brave! It feels crazy and looks even crazier initially because my skin gets red from the application. Knowing this, I dab it generously on the apples of my cheeks (look like a clown) and then sort of tap it out across my cheek bones and up my temples. Once my skin calms down underneath, the result is soft and dewy. This color in particular is very light and peachy and the gel consistency creates a moist, soft effect. I've also been into layering my blush lately (I recently heard about layering a bronzer under a bright blush and it really is an amazing effect) so I add just a very light brushing of sorbet Bare Escentuals blush (a brighter pinky peach) to the apples of my cheeks. Then (of course!), I have to top it off with a sweep of Bare Escentuals clear radiance across the top of my cheek bones. I’ve been doing exactly this every time I go out lately and I love it. It looks amazing and lasts until the very end of the night. Now that I've figured out how to use it, I can’t wait now to try some of the other Tarte Cheek Stain colors!

So recently I dealt with a difficult loss. I was in pretty bad shape and after a week or so found myself looking at a truly messed up stranger in the mirror. To Good Genes or not to Good Genes. That is the Question.

There is a lot of buzz out there for the cult favorite GOOD GENES ($105). But Sunday Riley, the brand which makes this cult phenomenon is also cultivating a lot of buzz for bad business practices. I'm not one for supporting a company that fakes reviews. Maybe those fake reviews created the buzz to make GOOD GENES phenomenon; maybe they didn't. But in truth real people do love the product. Because lactic acid is an effective ingredient. Lactic acid, is lactic acid though. There are plenty of other brands that carry a good lactic acid product. For a one to one, meaning basically the same product/function, I actually prefer Tata Harper RESURFACING SERUM ($88). GOOD GENES is good but in my experience RESURFACING SERUM from Tata Harper is better and more effective. I recently discovered Thrive OVERNIGHT SENSATION Brightening Sleep Mask ($62) which combines glycolic and lactic acid and that is working well for me right now. Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara

Never in my life have I been able to wear mascara on my lower lashes. The shape of my eye pretty much ensures a very grave raccoon eye situation. I can't say I experience much angst about this condition. Such is life. I honestly didn't know I cared until I got Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara. So this is one of those Facebook ad stalker situations. I was getting the ad for this mascara constantly until I finally caved and made the purchase. There is a sucker born every minute and when it comes to mascara, I'm a sucker. Of course I had to get past the name. It's forgivable, but the word Causemetics makes me itch and I'm not thrilled about typing it out right now. But this mascara is something. My inferiority complex about my eyelashes is well documented on this blog and yet my willingness to apply fake lashes has been steadily waning.
