Red Light Quick Change
On the Go Makeup Favorites
Getting glamorous at home is one thing but what do you do when you have evening plans right after work? You can’t exactly wear your evening makeup at work all day can you? Well maybe some of you can but I’m pretty sure my co-workers would fall over in a faint if this Cinderella complex girl showed up with smoky eyes. No when I have evening plans, I am entering my pumpkin as one girl and stepping out of it another. And trust me, there’s no fairy godmother sitting in the car ready to wave her magic wand.
Speaking of magic wands (groan!), on the go makeup product requirements are very specific aren’t they? You’ve seen me joke about attempting to apply gel eyeliner with an eyeliner brush in motion and without a net before. Or how about fumbling with loose powder eye shadow and having to quickly hit the brakes? Not practical! Now that you’re all sufficiently concerned for my well being on the road (it’s not that bad Oprah, I promise) I officially, sternly discourage any makeup application unless you’re parked or completely stopped at a red light.
Now that we all agree I’m not responsible if you drive off the side of the road with mascara in hand or poke your eye if rear ended, here are my current red light quick change favorites:
Mally Evercolor Long-Wearing Shadow Stick
I just got this in a taupe shade and I am in LOVE! The shape and size of the tip is perfect for the crease, all over coverage, or even as a smudgy liner. I would actually recommend it for people who are a bit intimidated by eye shadow in general. It’s super easy to use. Just open the cap and go to town. You’ll have about a minute to blend with your finger tips or wipe the product off and then it pretty much sets. It doesn’t smear at all even when you apply it along the bottom of your eye. Pretty exciting stuff!
Shu Uemura Mascara Basic
I highly recommend this mascara for many, many reasons (see http://www.beautyproductswork.com/profiles/blogs/shu-uemura-mascara-basic ) but it’s especially perfect for on the go application because of its light gel formula. If you smear it anywhere you don’t like, a simple wipe with your finger while it’s still wet removes all trace of the product from your skin. If you’re going glam, just apply several coats, allowing it to dry in between applications.
Bare Minerals 100% Natural Lip Gloss
I’m recommending this specific gloss for on the go application because this formulation is particularly dense in color. One swipe and a quick press of your lips together will provide you with a very nice compromise between a lipstick and a gloss.
Bare Minerals Refillable Buffing Brush
I love my loose mineral foundation for special occasions but tapping a little into the cap and then tapping the excess in the car is obviously ridiculous. Until now!
Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner
I prefer to use a liquid or gel liner with a brush but this is just not practical in the car or on the go. This is a solid liner that is good on your inner eyes or as a thin line on top. Either way, once it sets (you do get a little play time, smudge with your fingers) it stays put and you don’t have to worry about it going anywhere.
Other Must Haves for Your Car or Purse:
- Tissue
- Clear Emollient Lip Balm (no menthol, peppermint, wax, or chemicals, i.e. chapstick!) to erase makeup smears (wipe with tissue) and/or for your lips. Also to moisten your fingertips (tiny amount!) and blot into dry cakey areas to re-blend or wipe and re-appy.
- Reasonably sized blush brush. Those little applicators are unusable. Don't do it.
Let me know what you think! So now that I’ve shared some of mine, what are your favorite on the go products?
